Adairsville's footprint spans a little over nine square miles, hosts a population of around 4,878 residents (as of the latest 2020 census) and is located in the Oothcalooga Valley almost exactly halfway between Atlanta and Chattanooga. The town was originally named for a Scottish settler, Chief John Adair who married into the Cherokee tribe. Considered a historical town, Adairsville's past is steeped in civil war and Native American history and was the first complete town that was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Most of Adairsville's early growth was centered around the Western and Atlantic Railroad's expansion to Chattanooga, TN. A rail depot was constructed in 1847 at the center of the town which spurred on growth in the form of mills, blacksmiths and lodging that sprung up to support the railway. Adairsville eventually became informally know as the "Granary of the State" and was incorporated in the 1854. Other notable railway related events include the famous Great Locomotive Chase in April of 1862 during the civil war.
Today, Adairsville is a growing suburb of Rome, Cartersville and Calhoun, with an abundance of both residential and commercial development opportunities. Popular restaurants and entertainment spots include Woodlands Grill, Adairsville Inn Restaurant, Rice House, Peacock Junction Antique Mall and the Adairsville Depot History Museum & Welcome Center. A growing town that has somehow retained its small town vibe while still providing all the modern amenities and conveniences.
