Rosemary Beach is a planned community in Walton County, Florida. The town is named after Rosemary Milligan, who was a realtor and gas station owner active in the building of the community.
Patrick D. Bienvenue, president of Leucadia Financial Corporation, founded the town in 1995 after buying land from the older Inlet Beach neighborhood. The design team, Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company, constructed Rosemary Beach as a mixed-use neighborhood with homes, shops, restaurants, green spaces, and shared spaces for outdoor activities and community events. It is the same design team behind Alys Beach and Seaside.
Rosemary Beach’s design reflects the French Quarter in New Orleans, European influences in the West Indies, and architecture in the Caribbean. It relies on sustainable materials, natural color palettes, and high ceilings that allow hot air to circulate away from living spaces. There are balconies and easy paths to the beach.
