The town of Orchid, also known as Orchid Island, is located just north of Indian River Shores. Orchid, like many parts of Indian River County, has a rich history and connections to the citrus trade. The barrier island was discovered by Captain Frank Forster, and he named it Orchid after the gorgeous orchids that grew throughout the island.
