The area comprising Largo, Florida, was originally inhabited by the Tocobaga Indians, was claimed by Spanish and English interests, and eventually transferred to the United States in 1821. Settlement began in 1852, and the city was incorporated in 1905. Initially, the economy was based on agriculture; however, the area experienced rapid growth after World War II, a trend that continues to the present day.

The city has a strong community and is the 4th largest in Florida by population. The Chamber of Commerce and the City Council actively sponsor numerous activities throughout the year. The Chamber is sponsoring a Holiday Luncheon on December 16th, beginning at 11:30 AM at the Palms of Largo. This is a fundraiser for the Education Fund. The Ambassador team meets monthly on the first Wednesday of every month from 8:15 to 9:15 at the Chambers offices.

The mayor hosts a coffee chat session every third Tuesday of every month, beginning at 8:30 am. These chats provide an opportunity to ask questions and learn about city projects and upcoming events. The city's events calendar lists various commission meetings and events, including the Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday, November 22nd, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at McGough Nature Park.

Largo covers a large area, and there are several farmers ’ markets available for residents to enjoy. The Pinellas Farmers Markets are open Saturdays until 2 pm. The Dunedin Downtown Farmers Market is also open until 2 pm on Saturdays. The Belcher Farmers' Market is open until 6:30 p.m. on Saturdays, and the Largo Evening Market opens at 5 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m.
