Destin, Florida is in Okaloosa County. It is the main city in the Crestview –Fort Walton Beach –Destin metropolitan area. Destin is famous for its white beaches and emerald-green water. It started as a small fishing village, and it is now a popular tourist destination; tourism, not fishing, is the mainstay of its economy. Every year, 4.5 million visitors visit Florida’s Emerald Coast; 80% of them spend at least part of their visit in Destin.
Fishing is not, however, absent from the economy. Destin calls itself "The World's Luckiest Fishing Village", and claims to have the state’s largest fleet of fishing vessels.
Destin on a peninsula separating the Gulf of Mexico from Choctawhatchee Bay. The peninsula was originally a barrier island. Hurricanes and sea level changes gradually connected it to the mainland. In the 1940s, it technically became an island again with the completion of the Choctawhatchee-West Bay Canal.
While Destin a fishing village has a long history relative to its name, the name came from a Connecticut fishing boat captain, Leonard Destin, who settled in Florida sometime between 1845 and 1850. Flocks of snowbirds continue the tradition of at least part-time residence.

SERVPRO of FWB sent Richard to our home to clean all of our upholstered furniture and several rugs to get ready for an estate sale. He was so friendly and professional, put pads down on the floors to protect our new flooring, and cleaned everything efficiently and beautifully. We have several pieces of down furniture and hard to clean wool rugs but he cleaned them perfectly with no trouble. We have worked with SERVPRO in the past and they have always been superb, today was another hit out of the park and we will definitely be calling again in the future. Getting everything ready for the new baby didn't get us ready for her first big storm. She slept through it, but we were literally swimming from the hole in the roof. Glad nothing fell on us! Thanks for pumping out the water and getting us dry again. We tell all our neighbors about how you showed up so fast and how quickly you got to work, too. Thank you so much from a couple of new parents.
