What is Bookertown, Florida Known for?

Bookertown is known for its beautiful weather, with hot summers and mild winters. It also has low humidity year-round, which makes the area perfect for enjoying outdoor activities like visiting Bookertown Park, hiking, and kayaking.

The average amount of rainfall per year in Bookertown is about 53 inches. The rainy season typically lasts from May through October—although thunderstorms are common throughout the year—and there's almost always at least a slight chance of rain during hurricane season (June 1 through November 30).

How did Bookertown become Bookertown?

The first African Americans arrived in the area in 1885 as workers for two different railroad companies. Their work helped make the railroad industry boom and continuous travel across the St. Johns River possible. These workers and their families became the foundation for Bookertown.

In 1906, Michael Mackenzie Smith bought some land that eventually became Bookertown. He surveyed part of the land into plots and sold it. By 1910, six houses were owned by black community members, and in 1925, the first church was established.

Over the years, Bookertown has grown to include many people and provides a subtle history lesson just in the naming, with many streets honoring the names of many great black historical figures and the town name itself honoring Booker T. Washington.

Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving 2024 my kitchen flooded. I called ServPro and they had a team on site within 2 hours. Following several days of dealing with the water damage it was time to repair the damage. ServPro construction group headed by Jim McGahuey and Haylee Herbert Roy assessed needed repairs, cost and managed the entire process. They are professional, detail oriented and most of all patient.
