Harrington, formerly known as “Clarks Corner”, was founded in 1780 by Benjamin Clark. Clark built his home and a tavern that became a rural trade center, that allows farmers to barter and trade their goods. For this reason, in 1856, the Delaware Railroad established a junction that allowed easier travel into Wilmington and Philadelphia. In 1862, Clarks Corner became know as Harrington, named for Delaware Railroad chancellor, Samuel Harrington.
