History of Briargate, Colorado

The Cheyenne, Ute and Arapaho peoples originally populated the Briargate area. In the mid-1800s, immigrants from England settled there. The Tesla Experimental Station operated in the area from 1899 to 1901. During World War II it became a base for military operations and the military remains a large part of the local economy, with more than 45,000 active duty troops and over 100,000 veterans and retired military personnel living in the Colorado Springs region.

Attractions

Briargate is a trendy neighborhood that is popular with young families. It features spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains and Pikes Peak. Residents and tourists enjoy the many green spaces, such as the John Venezia Community Park. Briargate also features farmers' markets, shopping centers and a variety of dining options. The nearby United States Air Force Academy's Cadet Chapel is famous for its visually striking roof design.
Visitors to the area can choose from more than 55 attractions, such as the ANA Money Museum, Garden of the Gods park, The National Museum of World War II Aviation and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center. The region features many breweries and microbreweries. There are plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation in the many nearby trails and parks. Sports fans will enjoy the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC soccer team and the Rocky Mountain Vibes baseball team.

Weather

Winters in Briargate are cool and dry but can be unpredictable due to the warming influence of the chinook winds. Summers are also dry but feature frequent lightning strikes that can create a risk of wildfires and damage to structures.
