Ono is an unincorporated community in Shasta County, California. Ono's center is on County Road A16, locally known as Platina Road, the village's only access to the rest of the world. It is about 5 miles (8.0 km) from its neighbor, Igo, and about 17 miles (27 km) from Redding, the county seat. Its population is 93 as of the 2020 census.
According to tradition, the community was named for the answer ("Oh, no") usually given by a miner to his son when asked if the latter could accompany his father to work. The name might instead be biblical in origin.
Ono is a community in slow decline, which began in the late 1970s when it lost its primary school and post office to is local neighbor, Igo.
In 2020, the Zogg Fire destroyed several buildings in Ono, including the Ono Store and Ono Grange.
According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Ono has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated "Csa" on climate maps.
Ono is a very small town filled with wonderful people whom we've continued to service since the start. If not for its more strange name, the town has certain drawn several neighboring homes to it. And even thought it is a smaller town in our history we have had several jobs there, spanning from fire damage restoration to water damage restoration. We were affected by smoke damage from a local wildfire. We could not live in our house because smoke damage was so bad. We made a call to SERVPRO of South Shasta and they worked direct with my insurance, cleaned our walls and furniture and did a duct cleaning. We were able to move back in and is smells and looks wonderful. Thanks for an excellent job.
My shower leaked and destroyed my tile floor. When SERVPRO of South Shasta Co. came out they pulled the shower and some sheet rock and I was horrified to see the amount of mold that was behind it. SERVPRO people removed the mold, replaced my shower and tile floor, and drywall. I was impressed, they kept a clean job site.
