The city of Town Creek is located in the northern part of the state of Alabama in Lawrence County. It is included in the Decatur Metropolitan Area, as well as the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. According to the 2020 United States Census, the population of Town Creek was 1,052, which is down from the 2010 Census which reported 1,100 residents. Town Creek was first established in the first half of the 19th century, and was originally named "Jonesboro" after one of the towns earliest settlers, William Jones. It was officially incorporated in 1875. Although the exact date is uncertain, Town Creek was one of the very first towns settled in Lawrence County.

A few miles to the northeast of Town Creek is located the historic Saunders-Goode-Hall, a historic mansion house listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Also located just a few minutes north of Town Creek is Joe Wheeler State Park.
