Located along the banks of the Tombigbee River in Southeast Washington County lies the town of McIntosh. The town is located 44 miles north of Mobile with a population of 206 people. Around half of the residents are of Native American descent and are a part of the MOWA Band of Choctaw Indians. McIntosh is one of the most Native American towns in Alabama. The town was officially incorporated in 1970 and it was only the third town to be incorporated in Washington County at that time. McIntosh is served by the Southern Railroad.

One of the most notable events to happen near McIntosh was the arrest of the 3rd Vice President of the United States, Andrew Burr in 1807. Vice President Burr was arrested for treason, but he is most notably known for killing Alexander Hamilton in a duel in 1804.

One of the oldest buildings in McIntosh is Andrews Chapel. Known as the McIntosh Log Church, it is one of the few remaining log churches in the state. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The economy in McIntosh is based around the timber industry, the turpentine industry, and the nearby natural salt dome. The timber industry thieves in the McIntosh area due to the wide variety of the soft and hardwood trees in the area. MCIntosh is home to several types of trees such as longleaf pines, shortleaf pines, oak, hickory, cypress, cedar, and walnut.

One of the main employers in the area is the McIntosh Power Plant operated by Power South Energy Cooperative. The power plant uses the natural salt caverns to store compressed air. The plant is the only utility-scale Compressed Air Energy Storage facility in the United States. It is one of just a few in the entire world.
