Eufaula is the largest city in Barbour County, Alabama. The city is settled high upon a bluff overlooking 45,000-acre Lake Eufaula. It is located in southeastern Alabama along the Alabama-Georgia border, approximately 90 miles southeast of Montgomery, the Alabama state capital. The City of Eufaula was incorporated under its present name in 1843 but was first settled in 1816. A fun fact that you may not know is that Lake Eufaula is known as the "Big Bass Capital of the World." The Seth Lore and Irwinton Historic District is a historic district in Eufaula, Barbour County, Alabama. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. With over 700 historic and architecturally significant structures, the district includes Alabama's most coherent collection of intact mid-to-late 19th century small town commercial buildings, as well as the state's most extensive collection of domestic Italianate architecture.
