McKenzie Cleanup and Restoration

McKenzie, TN was established in 1867 after the completion of the Nashville and Northwestern Railroad tracks but was later incorporated in 1869. Named for James Monroe McKenzie a local settler who gave the property to the Railroad Company. While Bethel College was established in 1847 in McLemoresville, it was not until 1872 that Bethel College was moved to McKenzie where it resides now. Bethel College operated under that name until 2009 when the Bethel Board of Trustees voted unanimously to change the name from Bethel College to Bethel University to best reflect the momentum the school was experiencing. While Bethel University is a private Christian university, it has satellite campuses in Memphis, Nashville, Jackson, Paris, and Clarksville. Bethel also has three colleges operating under its umbrella: The College of Arts and Sciences, The of Professional Studies, and The College of Health Sciences.

McKenzie is home to the Sweet Tea & Southern Pickin’s Festival. This Festival is held at the end of the Summer and is a great way to get the community together to celebrate this little town with food vendors, crafts, live music, and antiques. In the South, there is nothing better than some fried foods and a big ol’ glass of Sweet Tea.
