The city of Lacey Springs is located in the northern part of the state of Alabama. It is located in Morgan County and has a population of roughly 8,774 people. It is included in the Decatur Metropolitan area, as well as the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. The city boast many recreational activities for residents such as the Lacey Springs Recreation Center, Carroll D. Hudson Recreation Area, and the Better Acres Campground.
The city of Lacey Springs was established by three Virginia-born brothers, Hopkins, John, and Theophilus Lacy. The city first gained recognition after establishing a post office in February of 1831. The town name changed from "Lacy" to "Lacey" when the postal seal provided by Washington officials inserted an "e" into the name by accident. The spring that had brought the Lacy brothers to Alabama in the early 1800's was covered over by interstate construction in the late 1900's. The north-bound lanes of Hwy 231 obscured the spring, but a 48-inch tile placed into the water source allows the spring to continue flowing.
