Trusted Water Extraction and Structural Drying Specialists

From a small pipe leak to catastrophic flooding, water can damage the foundation, floors, and walls of your home or business, not to mention the belongings inside. And mold growth can begin in a couple days.

There’s not a minute to lose. Quick response can keep a bad, potentially hazardous situation from getting worse. At SERVPRO, water extraction (also known as water removal) is a key part of our water damage restoration process. Using powerful pumps and truck-mounted vacuum units, we can quickly remove hundreds or thousands of gallons of water.

From there, structural drying begins. Using the latest drying systems, from targeted heat to controlled airflow, we’ll make sure your property is dried to the industry standard to maintain structural stability and avoid further damage.

Why Water Extraction and Structural Drying?

Water extraction is exactly what it sounds like: removing excess water from your home or business after a water emergency like a flood, leak, or backup. Structural drying removes any excess, hidden moisture that has been absorbed by structural components throughout the home.  Water extraction and structural drying are essential to:

Prevent Mold Growth

Mold can start growing in just 24 to 48 hours. Once that growth begins, spores can spread quickly, leading to health risks and expensive cleanup and restoration.

Minimize Structural Damage

Standing water can weaken the structural integrity of your home or business. This can make your floors, walls, and ceilings warp, deteriorate, and even collapse. Structural repairs can be extremely expensive and disruptive.

Prevent Odors

Thoroughly drying your home after water damage will reduce the chances of unhealthy mold and mildew, along with the persistent musty smells that come with them.

Preserve Your Belongings

After a water-related event, your furniture, electronics, valuables, and important papers can be damaged or ruined. It’s important to get the contents of your home out of harm’s way.

When my basement flooded, I had never worked with Servpro before and they came highly recommended. I can now say wholeheartedly that they exceeded every expectation. From mitigation and restoration through demolition and pack-out coordination, the experience has been nothing short of exceptional. Kevin, Johnny, and the entire team have been extraordinary. What has impressed me most is not only their expertise and professionalism, but their responsiveness, integrity, and genuine care during an incredibly stressful time. When my parents also experienced a flood, the very same team stepped in to help them as well, and Kevin was immediately responsive and instrumental in getting everything moving quickly. The coordination has been seamless — even the front desk and administrative team have been outstanding, communicative, and compassionate throughout the process. What stands out most is the trust they inspire. Having a team in your home all day, for days on end, requires a tremendous level of comfort and confidence. I have felt completely at ease leaving my home when needed because they have consistently demonstrated professionalism, respect, and trustworthiness. Flood damage is overwhelming and deeply disruptive, but this team brought calm, competence, and humanity into the situation. I genuinely feel fortunate to know them and profoundly grateful for their work. Servpro has been nothing short of remarkable, and I would recommend them without hesitation.

Servpro got in touch me promptly after the adjuster’s visit. They were onsite as promised in short order. The workers were on time, professional, and courteous. They protected the rest of my space while doing their work. I was impressed by how detailed and thorough they were. And before leaving they informed me what they had done and cleaned up meticulously. Jeri responded promptly to my calls about additional concerns. Overall Servpro made an unfortunate experience more less stressful.

Our insurance company referred us to Servpro to remediate water damage in two adjacent rooms. They were prompt, professional, and very knowledgeable. They informed us how each step of the process would go, and they executed those plans. There were no surprises from them. They removed all signs of water damage and monitored the locations afterwards to ensure that the remediation was successful. They referred contractors to us to help with restoration after remediation was completed. The contractors performed in the same manner as the staff from Servpro—always on time and very professional. Their finish work was excellent.

Recently, my basement was flooded with 2 to 3 inches of water. I thought I would have many problems, but I was wrong. Servpro was the company to fix everything and the project Manager was John Fasciano. John explained everything that would be done. I had many questions and I called John many times with questions and John and John patiently and politely always answered all of my questions no matter how many times I called him. The last time I saw John was when he came to close the case. He asked me if I was satisfied with the job, and if there was anything that I wanted him to do. I told him that everything was OK except for my TV and speakers still, but not in working condition. I had been unable to connect all the wires with my TV and speakers and other units. John asked if I wanted him to do it and of course I said yes , I was amazed later when John turned on the TV and Everything was back to normal. I was very very pleased. Even when he was working away, his last Words were” Call me if you have any problems.” Thank you, John.

After some water damage took place due to a flooding accident from the neighbor above us, ServPro immediately stepped in and made sure to take care of the mold and kitchen teardown for next steps. Not only were Kevin and Andres (the mitigation team) super professional, but Jeri made sure to stay in touch with both me and my insurance company to make the entire process as seamless as possible. They were all easy to get in touch with, were kind, arrived on time, completed the work as expected and explained each bit of the process thoroughly. Thank you all!

We had a major flood in the basement due to a blocked sewage pipe. We needed help immediately. When i called Servpro I was fortunate to speak to a young woman named Jeri. Not only did she arrange for servicemen to arrive at the house within hours but she walked me through the entire process. Jeri was always in contact with me by phone or email. She was diligent in obtaining the plumbers invoice so our insurance policy would cover the cost of the cleanup.. Servpro did a very thorough job. took care not to damage anything. Their staff is courteous and professional.I highly recommend Servpro for any of your cleaning needs.

Would highly recommend them for your disaster cleanup. The entire crew were skilled and trained right to do the job. Jeri coordinated the entire cleanup from start to finish.

SERVPRO Water Extraction & Structural Drying Knowledge Center

What equipment does SERVPRO use for water extraction?

When it comes to water extraction, SERVPRO technicians have both the very latest and the tried-and-true at their disposal:

  • Moisture detectors, hygrometers, and other meters measure the extent of moisture saturation.
  • Infrared cameras find “hidden” water behind walls and ceilings.
  • Submersible and gas-powered pumps are used for continuous pumping of high-level water.
  • Truck-mounted and portable extraction units perform efficient water removal.
After water damage, how long does it take for mold to grow?

It’s important to begin water extraction and drying immediately, since mold growth can begin just 24-48 hours after water was introduced to your home.

What’s a sump pump and what does it do?

A sump pump is a mechanical pump, often placed in a basement or crawlspace, to remove water as it accumulates in a sump pit. As the water level rises, it trips a float switch, turns on the pump, and sends the excess water away from the structure. Sump pumps help keep your basement dry and protect your home from water damage.

How long does water extraction take?

In most residential cases, water extraction takes one to three days. It depends on factors such as:

  • The water source
  • The amount of water
  • How much of the home is affected
  • Affected materials in the home like carpet, furniture, and drywall
What drying equipment does SERVPRO use?

SERVPRO technicians use industrial-grade dehumidifiers to help prevent secondary water damage like swelling and warping of floors, walls, and furniture. They use high-speed air movers to create airflow across walls, carpets, pads, and furniture, in order to accelerate the evaporation of moisture. Moisture mapping is also used to locate hidden areas that need drying.

After water removal, how long does it take to dry out a home?

The drying process begins after standing water is removed. Drying typically takes three days to a week. But it can take longer, depending on:

  • Type of material: wood, drywall, and other porous materials soak up more moisture and take longer to dry.
  • Humidity levels: the higher the humidity, the longer the drying time.
  • Saturation level: If the home is heavily saturated, drying will take longer (giving mold a chance to grow).
Is structural drying needed after a small leak?

The amount of water you see may not be the entire picture. What’s important is not just the amount, but where the water went. A small amount of water that enters a wall, cabinetry, or flooring is often harder to detect and completely dry. Over time, that small amount of moisture can weaken the supporting materials in your home.

Should I open my windows to help with structural drying?

When the outside air is too humid, or the property needs to be kept secure, it’s best to keep the windows closed. In the case of a more humid area, such as Florida, opening windows might increase the drying time.
