SERVPRO Helps with the Insurance Claim Process

At SERVPRO, we understand that property damage can be overwhelming. With decades of experience, SERVPRO can help document damage and provide information related to the services performed that can assist customers during the insurance claim process.

Groundwater flooding is usually covered by flood insurance, not a standard homeowners policy.

Knowing where the main water shutoff is located on your property can help prevent water damage to your home or business in an emergency.

Flood: What You Can Do Right Now

With flooding, knowing what you can do before help arrives can help reduce the damage to your home and cut the restoration costs. Standing water in your home will cause more damage with every passing hour.

  • Get everyone in your household (including pets) away from rising water and to a safe, dry area of the home.
  • Shut off your water source if you know the shutoff valve location and can reach it safely.
  • Turn off your electricity at the main panel, if you can do it without stepping in water.
  • Don’t use electrical appliances or outlets that might‘ve come in contact with water.
  • Move your most valuable items, furniture, and electronics to higher ground if it’s safe.
  • Once the flooding has stopped, take photos of the damage for your insurance claim.

I filed a water damage claim through my insurance, and Servpro was the company that helped us from the very beginning. From day one, Marat (the owner) and his lead crew, Jose and Carlos, were outstanding. They were always polite, respectful, and easy to work with. The entire team was extremely professional and clearly very knowledgeable at what they do. At first, I was hesitant when my insurance company asked if I wanted to use their full-service restoration company, but I’m truly glad I did. Servpro exceeded my expectations. Their work quality, kindness, and transparency stood out the most. They kept us informed every step of the way and consistently provided updates, which gave us peace of mind during a stressful situation. Marat was hands-on throughout the entire process and went above and beyond what was asked or required to make sure everything was done right. I’m very satisfied with the results and would highly recommend Servpro to anyone dealing with water damage or home restoration needs.

Great company! Very professional. They know their stuff and are highly efficient. And honest! They won't charge you for services you don't need. I know because I asked them to do extra work and they said they would do it if I insisted, but it truly wasn't necessary. Terrific experience from start to finish!!

From day one, working with Marat and his team at Servpro has been nothing short of incredible. And no—this isn’t a paid promotion, just genuine appreciation from a very satisfied customer here in Agoura Hills. What started as a minor, innocent leak from our upstairs bathroom quickly spiraled into a full-blown nightmare: mold, abatement, damaged flooring, recurring water issues, and months of back-and-forth with insurance. Throughout all of it, Marat went way above and beyond his scope of work. He basically became our unofficial insurance advocate, stepping in to navigate the messy bureaucratic process and pushing back when our insurance didn’t want to cover essential work. The guy is a total legend. A huge shoutout also goes to his right-hand man, Carlos. Carlos is the definition of a true professional—skilled, reliable, and genuinely great to work with. It’s clear he knows his craft inside and out. I’ve attached before and after photos to show the transformation. If you’re dealing with damage or restoration and don’t know who to trust, I highly recommend reaching out to Marat and his crew. They’re honest, transparent, and completely break the stereotype of what people expect from this type of work. No upselling. No shady practices. Just real, quality service.

We had an undetected shower drain leak that began to lift flooring. After asbestos abatement, Servpro came in to renovate damaged flooring, kitchen cabinets and walls. The restoration work was seamless and very professional and cleanup was thorough. Marat was very helpful, compassionate and always available to reach by phone if we had any questions. Thank you Servpro!

The team has been nothing short of amazing! The response rate, customer service, quality of work has been incredible. I had them work on pack out, remediation and rebuild and it's been fast and quality. Marat has been excellent, and his team of Louis and Carlos are superb. Thank you, Marat, for such an amazing experience. If you can use them!!

The team at this ServPro location is magnificent. I’ve had the pleasure - yes, pleasure - of working with them twice in the last 2 years. They are exceptionally skilled, prompt, courteous and accommodating. They understand every job is different and work to deliver what you need in your place. They make great recommendations for reno projects and execute splendidly. They have restored my condo above and beyond my expectations - twice. I am forever grateful.

THANK YOU, Marat and Jose, Carlos and the crew! I highly recommend this company and these professionals!!

How to clean up flood damage in a home?

When a flood emergency occurs in your home, it’s only natural to want to take action immediately. Below are some preliminary steps you can take before we arrive, but only attempt what you can do safely.

  • Shut off the water source, if possible. If you’re not sure where the water is coming from, we’ll inspect and handle the situation as soon as we arrive. If you don’t know how to shut off the water, contact a plumber to help.
  • Remove excess water by mopping, blotting, or wiping. This could include flooring and hard surface furniture which has standing water on it. Do not use your household vacuum to remove water, since it could cause damage to the vacuum or be unsafe.
  • Protect carpet, rugs, drapes, and upholstered items from further damage. Place aluminum foil or parchment paper between furniture and wet carpet or rugs. Remove books, magazines, or other colored items from carpets and rugs. Hang draperies up with coated hangers to avoid contact with wet floors. Remove pillows or cushions from wet upholstered items.
  • Avoid using electric or electronic items that have come into contact with water. This may include items such as light fixtures, ceiling fans, televisions, or appliances. If there is a possibility that someone else on the property may turn on an electric item that has come in contact with water, consider turning off the power to individual circuits within the power distribution panel of the property.
What is a flood?

A flood is an overflow of water onto property that should otherwise be dry. Water from flooding doesn’t always come from the same place, and where it comes from matters a lot. Some floods bring in fairly clean water you can begin to deal with carefully. Others carry bacteria and contaminants that can harm your health. That’s why it’s important to know what you’re up against before you start your cleanup.

What are the most common causes of home floods?

Most home floods come from severe weather and storms, plumbing or appliance failures, and sewer backups or rising groundwater. Each source carries different risks, so identifying the cause early helps you respond as effectively as possible.

Is flood damage covered by insurance?

Flood damage may be covered by your insurance policy, but you’ll need to reach out to your agent to get specifics about your particular coverage. Most typical homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage.

How long does it take to fix flood damage?

The time it takes to fix flood damage depends on the severity of the flood. We’ll inspect your home or business and discuss with you the severity of damage and our plan to help return your property back to pre-loss condition. We’ll then work to remove the water that shouldn’t be there using pumps and water extracting equipment. Once the excess water is gone, we use dehumidifiers and other specialized drying equipment to help return the area to its normal moisture level. This is a closely monitored process, with our teams continually making adjustments to equipment to help ensure the area is recovering as quickly and as safely possible.

How dangerous is a flood?

Other than the environmental hazards, all natural flood water is classified as category 3 water damage. Category 3 water damage is defined as “Grossly unsanitary water containing pathogenic agents, arising from sewage or other contaminated water sources and having the likelihood of causing discomfort or sickness if consumed or exposed to humans.” Category 3 water damage is considered grossly contaminated. It may also be called “black water.”

What should you do if your house floods?

The most important thing to do is to move your family to safety. Next, shut off the water source and electricity if you can do so safely and avoid contact with standing water. Then call a professional water damage restoration company right away to begin the water extraction process.

Are sandbags helpful during a flood?

Sandbags are helpful for slowing and redirecting slow-moving water up to two feet deep, but they do not stop water completely. Do not rely on sandbags to counteract flood damage.
